Donut hair

Hair with donut bun:

I took inspiration from Audrey and got round to buying a hair donut.  Pretty happy with how it worked out, it's not as neat as I'd want it to be yet but it's all about practice and getting it right I guess.  I love how it looks though, feels a little Audrey Hepburnish and would be a great hairstyle for a night out.  I got my donut from Claire's Accessories for about 3 Euros but I'm sure you can find them for much cheaper in Primark or on Ebay.

Hope you have a good start into the week.  The new Lana Del Rey album is out today in the UK and everywhere tomorrow, highly recommended you check it out if you get the chance.

I got love for you if you were born in the 90's

(Tie dye shirt: Vintage.  Jeggings: H&M.  Shoes: Vans)

Last night a friend hosted a flat party with a 90's theme.  It was a great excuse to trawl through the vintage shops to find something that I would have worn when I was a kid.  I used to love tie dye and remember making t-shirts like the one I ended up buying.  A friend was in charge of a 90's Spotify playlist which had some amazing throwback songs like 7 Days by Craig David, What Is Love by Haddaway, C'est La Vie by B*Witched (so much double denim!) and of course the classic Oops! ...I Did It Again by Queen Britney amongst others.  The music from the 90's was amazing! Do you guys have any favorites? If so please link me some in the comments!

It was a really good night, I prefer flat and house parties to clubbing (I really hate that word as well, there's something cringy about it).  Going out to clubs is a lot of effort because it's always so rammed and I hate drunk sloppy that spill drinks on you or girls who always end up spearing your foot with their ridiculously high heels.

Today I'm paying for my love affair with cheap wine (€6.50 for two bottles!), so it's a cosy afternoon in pjs watching Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince and drinking a lot of tea.  I hope you've all had a great weekend so far!

Dark Paradise

(Tom Bagel: cream cheese, mustard, pastrami, lettuce, tomatoes and chutney)
(Frozen yoghurt with raspberry coulis)
(Black wide brim hat: Majestic.  Aviator jacket: Pull and Bear.  Donut Bun: Claire's Accessories.  Lipstick in R04 and lipliner: Sephora)

Today I went to town with one of my girl friends and indulged in a little retail therapy.  The sales in France are always on set dates in the month, unlike in the UK where there seem to be sales whenever the shops want to push out old stock.  It was great to have a girlie day out, at the moment it seems we're surrounded by boys.  Most of the girls who were here have gone to other countries for their second semesters of the year abroad.  The boys seem to be influencing me already, I watched half of the Barcelona and Real Madrid match the other night before I gave up at half time.

Today, we started off our day by searching through the vintage shops for some 90's get up for a party we're going to on Saturday.  I managed to find a pink tie dye shirt that's so bad it's amazing.  We then went to a frozen yoghurt bar that also does amazing food.  I only paid something like €6.80 for a bagel and frozen yoghurt.  It was so good, I'll probably be paying another visit in the near future.  We then went on a quick walk through Montpellier before landing at Lush.  It looks almost exactly like the one in Cardiff.  It's comforting that some things just never change.

Since my bank card has finally been unblocked I decided to celebrate appropriately and so I had a very successful day with the sales.  I ended up buying this jacket in Pull and Bear for only €40.  I've always wanted a jacket like this but have aways had problems finding ones where the sleeves don't drown me.  It's a small and it was the last one hanging so I impulse bought it.  It fits a little snug on the arms but it can be motivation to loose a little bit more weight.  My inspiration behind the 'donut bun' comes from Audrey, it's a look I've wanted to copy for ages and when I realised how easy it was I had to go on the hunt for said donut.  I'll post some photos tomorrow once I figure out how to make it look neat and tidy.

The title of this blog posts is from 'Dark Paradise' by Lana Del Rey from her new album Born To Die which is officially out on the 30th in the UK, but I couldn't resist having a sneak listen and it's safe to say it's going to be my favorite album of 2012.  I'd love to wake up tomorrow and be Lana Del Rey.

I hope you all have a great start into the weekend! I'll post some photos of my 'donut hair' tomorrow. Do you guys have any exciting plans for the weekend?

Oman Outtakes

I've not been up to anything exciting in Montpellier this week, partly because I'm working through my lectures and seminars and partly because my bank card was blocked by my bank last Friday.  Of course it takes a lot longer in France to sort things like that out, for what ever reason.  I've been feeling a little nostalgic for home, the Christmas holidays seemed to fly past at full speed.  So here are some outtakes from all the photos I took over the holidays.  I'm already looking forward to going home at Easter.

Hope you've all had a good start into the week

Nîmes - La ville avec un accent

Today a couple of friends and me took the train to Nîmes which is a small town outside Montpellier, it only took 20 minutes with the regional train so it was an easy trip.  Nîmes has a rich history which goes all the way back to Roman times and you can clearly see those influences in the amphitheater, the Maison Carrée (Square House) and the Temple of Diana.   Another interesting fact about this town is that the word 'denim' comes from the name of the town and literally means from Nîmes.  A little more additional information from Wikipedia: "The word denim comes from the name of a sturdy fabric called serge, originally made in Nîmes, France, by the André family. Originally called serge de Nîmes, the name was soon shortened to denim."

We had a lovely day out.  We started it off with a coffee and then went for a walk to the beautiful gardens.  I've been to Nîmes before, way back in October 2011, but it was great to come back when it was less hot.  We then had a fantastic lunch for an amazing price - only 10 Euros for 3 courses.  Well worth it.  Then we went to explore the amphitheater, it's so much better than the one in Rome because you can walk around on all the levels and climb all the way to the top.  It was a little nerve wracking because I'm slightly afraid of heights, but the view is gorgeous.  My knees buckled once I made it all the way to the top but thankfully I wasn't the only one who struggle with heights.  We were lucky with the weather as you can see, it's been so beautiful here and when the sun is out it doesn't even feel like it's only January.  Apparently in April it's beach weather again.  Perfect.

I hope you have all been having a great weekend so far, my plan for the rest of the weekend is to catch up on work, drink tea and maybe add in a trip to the zoo.
