The ghosts that we knew will flicker from view

I'm not sure what possessed my housemate and me to catch the train to Caerphilly to see the local castle.  The BBC weather had informed us that it would rain slightly, but the minute we stepped off the train the snow was nonstop.  I didn't want to be one of those people that keeps posting snow photos but it seems I am.  As a tiny German lady who has spent more than half her life in the Middle East, I've been struggling with the bitter cold.  But there you go, at least it made for a pretty magical setting.

Caerphilly Castle is the second largest castle after Windsor Castle, built in the 13th century and reconstructed from 1776 onwards by the Marquesses of Bute who also owned Cardiff Castle. We braved the snow and it really was worth it.  The castle is stunning and it felt like a fairytale (seems to be a recurring theme in my life at the moment).  Clearly everyone else was sane enough to stay wrapped up warm at home because we had the castle all to ourselves.  It's well worth a visit if you're ever in this part of the world.

I'm heading back to university on Monday. DREAD.  Trying to make the most of my days off but they seem to be filled with work (of the 'I need money to eat and wear nice things' variety).  How has January been treating you guys?

I was in the winter of my life

Coat: TopShop (sale).  Hat: France.  Boots: flea market (suspected Dr. Martens).

You're probably all very sick of seeing snow photos from the UK.  But I can count how many times I've seen snow in my life on one hand, so for the moment it remains a total novelty to me.  The snow we have in Cardiff has turned into grey slush so yesterday the other half and me ventured out into the Brecon Beacons to see some 'real' snow.  I love going up to Brecon, the landscape is stunning.  We went there a lot during summer (see here) but with the snow covering everything it felt like a fairy tale.  I think I've just been watching too much Once Upon a Time....

Our venture called for the debut of my most recent sale purchase: my gorgeous TopShop coat. It was fate.  It was lying there in the sales rack, in my size and the cherry on the icing: it's petite aka no overlong sleeves.  I had my eye on this coat from the minute it came out, but at £110 the price was a little steep.  So chuffed I got a hold of it now.  It's perfect for the transition period into what will hopefully soon be spring!

We ended our afternoon of exploring with dinner in a pub by an open fire (HEAVEN) and then I got to look at Ryan Gosling's lovely face in Gangster Squad.  A good day to say the least.

Wildest Moments

Jumper: vintage.  Shirt: flea market.  Jeans: TopShop. Hat: H&M. Boots: BooHoo. Lipstick: MAC's Rebel

So I finally bought a tripod for my camera to take outfit photos at home, and these are a test run.  The lighting in my room can be a little hit and miss but as most of you will know, the UK is 'overrun' with snow so there's no way to take photos outside.

I went to town with all the best intentions of running errands and joining a gym but ended up getting lost in the sales and splurging on something I've had my eyes on for a while now in TopShop.  Can't wait to show you all!

Hope the cold isn't getting you guys down too much!

Snow day

Six days ago I woke up to sunshine and the beach outside my window, today I woke up almost snowed in at my boyfriend's house.  To say I was surprised would be an understatement.  I waddled home through the snow in my not very waterproof faux fur coat and went to the park (in a more waterproof coat - thank god for Barbour!) to take some photos before the snow turned grey and slushy.  The rest of my day has been spent watching Dowton Abbey and making butternut squash and sweet potato soup in my cat onesie.  Lovely stuff.

Hope you guys are enjoying your snow day if you're in the UK!
