Changing of the Seasons

Autumn always gives me a new lease on life.  It's no big secret that it's my favourite season.  I love watching the leaves change colour and seeing the temperatures drop.  Winter scarves and hats come out of hibernation.  The X Factor is on again (which means Christmas is around the corner) and I can wear all black without breaking into a sweat.  Pumpkin spice is on everything.  What could possibly be better?

I always rejoice in these little moments that make up the best season of the year.  I think it has a lot to do with the fact that growing up in the Middle East we didn't have seasons.  We just had a hot period and a less hot period.  So moving to Europe meant that seasonal changes were beyond exciting for me.

But something about this autumn feels very different.  It's my first autumn in over 4 years as a single woman.  My priorities have changed.  Being alone means that I'm re-learning everything I thought I knew about self love and self care.

Autumn feels like a good time to start over - the seasons are changing and so am I.  There's a sense of old worries and anxieties dropping off and you get the chance to rebuild yourself and start working towards new goals.  Recently I let a lot of things overwhelm me but I'm taking it as a reminder that not every day has to be a good day.  I don't have to feel like queen of the world every day.  It's okay to have a difficult day, as long as I don't let it effect me and steer me off course.

This autumn I'm going to refocus my energies on the gym, my friends and feeling focused on achieving a sense of inner balance. There's a lot to look forward to and to be happy about this season and I'm enjoying that feeling.
So far this autumn I've enjoyed:
  • Listing - to this and ugly sobbing to Adele's new song
  • Reading - Charlotte's fantastic blog
  • Watching - documentaries on Netflix, such as Sins of My Father which ties in nicely with having devoured Narcos
  • Discovering - espresso martinis
  • Goal setting - I've signed up to run my first race (10k) in February and I'm already excited for it
